The project is located southwest of the City of Nanchang in the Jiang Xi province of China. The proposed community will be home to 10,000 residents, largely consisting of faculty and staff from the neighboring university town. The 57 hectare triangular site is bounded by a river on the north, and highways on the south and west. Access is limited to its western edge.
The geometric constraints of the site are dealt with by simple orthogonal geometry that permits efficient subdivision of land and clear circulation. The primary north-south axis is terminated along the river’s edge by the central park that is the heart of the community and is anchored by a community center. The plan proposes a variety of housing types for the 3,100 units, pedestrian scale neighborhoods, and tree-lined streets and pathways, parks, canals and playgrounds that make it an attractive place to live. A 30,000 s.m. retail and entertainment mixed-use center occupies the north-west corner of the site, and three higher density curvilinear buildings at the eastern corner provide a second regional marker and maintain the required program density in the wedge-shaped corner.
